Washing Machine prices: Why Some are more expensive than others

If you ever go to an online shop or an offline store to buy a washing machine and you are only comparing their prices then you may be looking at only one side of the bargain and you may have got home before realizing there were other things to check about your would be washing machine. In my experience advising would be buyers of washing machines, I have always considered the following features aside from the prices. As a good guy, I would like to share some important reasons why the machines are more expensive than the other. So that you do not have to say why did I buy this or it would have been better washing with my hands or I just wasted my money on this product.

  1. Washing Mode: Manual or Automatic Washing
  2. Washing Machine Loading type

Washing Mode: Manual or Automatic Washing

Manual washing machine

This  is an interesting option as it the beginner series into washing with a machine and it comes at the lowest price for a washing machine.  It basically allows you to drop your cloth in the machine set a wash time with an inbuilt manual clock. So you set it up for about 5 minutes washing time and after 5 minutes the machine stops working. Then drain manually the soapy water and supply water for the rinsing. Same thing goes for the rinsing you set a time for the machine to spin and rinse and you determine how many times you have to go on doing this.

In my view for that low price all you get is that it saves you the physical stress of using you hand to wash and squeeze to drain water from the clothes. In-fact, I bought one recently, when I needed a temporary machine to save me some stress, the price was just too pocket friendly. I also know some small startups use this type of washing machine as it very cheap.

Automatic Washing machine

There are actually two washing modes the Semi-automatic and the Fully Automatic. For simplicity, I would like discuss only the fully automatic washing machine. The fully automatic washing machine price is higher than the Semi-Automatic and definitely higher than the Manual. In simple words, the automatic allows you to put your clothes and detergent in the washing machine, choose a washing option, seat down and wait for the machine to complete it washing, rinsing and spinning to drain the water. They are usually fitted with automatic pumps to control the water flow.

Washing Machine Loading type

Top Load Washer

The top load washer requires supplying clothes from the top and the washing tube stands upright. Very good to wash but less water efficient hence the price you have to pay than getting it cheaper compared to the Front loader

Front Load Washer

The front loader washer tubes seats at the horizontal position at an angle of 90 degrees to that of the top load washer. It is more efficient in the use of water and better at handling washing particles off the clothes. It is however having a higher washing machine price compared to the Top load.

These are the few points for now. I hope to talk more about the combo options that come with a washer and dryer and how it affects the price of washing machines in Nigeria or any other part of the world
